Ryan has 17 years of sworn law enforcement experience as a police officer and federal agent. He also holds an MBA in Business and a BA in Philosophy from James Madison University in Virginia. Ryan began his career as a police officer in Virginia and spent time working as an investigator on a gang unit. He then transitioned to the federal service as a special agent with the US Secret Service where he protected US presidents, Vice Presidents, presidential families, and foreign heads of state in the US and around the world.  He developed security plans for motorcades, advanced operations, special events, air-space security, and completed the US Secret Service counter-surveillance program. He was also awarded the title of “expert marksman” by the US Secret Service. Ryan also served as a team leader with Special Response Team.
